Arcade East Launch: Peut-Porter

Wear & Seek – Camouflage for a Virtual Landscape

Interactive installation and performance

Book free ticket

To celebrate the launch of Arcade East, London College of Fashion’s new project space, London-based design collective Peut-Porter present Wear & Seek – Camouflage for a Virtual Landscape, a collection of garments that reveals its complete aesthetic spectrum only when perceived with the help of machine-vision. With this performance-based installation, Peut-Porter present a designerly response to enhanced vision systems and investigate the impact and potentials for aesthetic usage of those technologies. Visitors are invited to immerse themselves by wearing specially designed outfits and headpieces to become part of the performance.

Arcade East was developed to host a themed season of events and installations with a focus on digital practice and innovation each summer as part of a new LCF Arts Programme. Most projects are developed in conjunction with a new interdisciplinary space, the Digital Learning Lab, which operates at the intersection between traditional and digital practice for design, making and ideation. This summer’s programme focuses on design, technology and performance and this event marks the beginning of a launch series of experimental projects.

Formed of Alexa Pollmann, Bine Roth and Kat Thiel, the design platform Peut-Porter shapes its own category; interrogating and imagining all that is ‘worn’ in its widest sense. By putting the body in context they explore the space of the may be and may come – the ‘peut-être’ in French. Inherently future facing, Peut-Porter create artefacts that investigate body politics and social change through the lens of fashion by crafting characters, narratives and experiences with and for the human body.

The project was commissioned by Arcade East and supported by Ravensbourne College Research Department, DoubleMe and has been developed in collaboration with dance artist Lucy Suggate and will be activated by Julie Cunningham.

Arcade East Launch is part of London Design Festival 2017.
